NEW YORK February 8, 2016 Syfy today announced it has renewed hit drama series THE MAGICIANS for a second season of 13 episodes, expected to air in 2017. THE MAGICIANS is from Universal Cable Productions and is executive produced by John McNamara (Aquarius), Sera Gamble (Supernatural), Henry Alonso Myers (Covert Affairs) and Groundswell Productions' Michael London and Janice Williams (Milk).
Based on the bestselling novels from Lev Grossman, THE MAGICIANS is currently airing its first season on Syfy on Mondays at 9PM ET/PT. The series' fourth episode premieres tonight.
"Thanks to an extraordinarily gifted creative team of executive producers and our partners at Universal Cable Productions, THE MAGICIANS has become a buzzed-about hit, enchanting fans of the novels as well as attracting new and younger audiences to Syfy," said Dave Howe, President, Syfy & Chiller.
During its first three episodes, THE MAGICIANS averaged 1.7 million viewers, 853K Adults 18-49 and 910K Adults 25-54 (based on L3 data). The series is also strong among younger viewers, with Adults 18-34 growing consecutively over each episode, averaging 180% above Syfy's prime time delivery in that demo.
Digitally, the series' first episode was sampled more than 6.7 million times during its pre-linear launch (January 8 to January 25) across Syfy.com and select partner sites, as well as On Demand cable, satellite and telco TV platforms. Additionally, an on-air sneak peek of the pilot, airing December 16 at 10PM ET/PT, drew 1.3 million total viewers (based on L+7 data).
Starring Jason Ralph (Quentin Coldwater), Stella Maeve (Julia), Olivia Taylor Dudley (Alice) Hale Appleman (Eliot), Arjun Gupta (Penny) and Summer Bishil (Margo), THE MAGICIANS centers on Quentin, a brilliant grad student chosen to attend Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. Also reprising their roles for season two will be series regulars Rick Worthy (Dean Fogg) and Jade Tailor (Kady).
THE MAGICIANS is part of a powerhouse Syfy 2016 lineup that includes THE EXPANSE, which was recently renewed for a 13-episode second season, and the upcoming April 11 scripted series HUNTERS from "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. This year will also see premieres of season two of the critically acclaimed 12 MONKEYS (April 18), as well as INCORPORATED, a futuristic thriller from Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Todd's Pearl Street Films (coming in Fall 2016). "JENNIFER LOPEZ, RAY LIOTTA AND "SHADES OF BLUE" BACK ON THE BEAT FOR A SECOND SEASON ON NBC
Prestigious Thursday Drama That Spotlights a Corrupt and Complicated NYPD Precinct Delivers Robust Ratings and Earns a Season 2 Renewal
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. Feb. 5, 2016 One of NBC's strongest dramas to debut in recent years both critically and in delivering a solid overall ratings return "Shades of Blue" has been renewed for a second season.
The announcement was made today by NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.
"We want to thank Jennifer, who is the hardest working woman we know, for her incredible efforts as both the star and producer of this show, as well as well as our other amazing producers and cast for all their tireless work in creating one of the most compelling dramas on television today," said Salke. "We're so excited to find out where this story will lead and have them raise the stakes even higher in what we know will be a fantastic second season."
In L+3 results from Nielsen Media Research through its first three telecasts, "Shades of Blue" has averaged a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.2 million viewers overall. "Shades of Blue" has delivered NBC's first Thursday 10-11 p.m. ET time period wins with in-season regular programming over original competition on ABC and CBS since March 2010 in 18-49 and since March 2008 in total viewers.
"Shades of Blue" is also one of the most time-shifted shows on television, with its most recent L+7 Nielsen results lifting the show by +95% in 18-49 versus its live plus same day rating (from a 1.32 to a 2.57) and by +4.7 million viewers overall (6.6 million to 11.3 million). The +95% gain was the #1 biggest percentage increase for the week of Jan. 11-17 on the Big 4 networks and was the #1 biggest L+7 percentage lift so far this season for Week 2 of a new series on those nets.
The series and its cast have been critically applauded by several prominent publications, including The New York Times, Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times and TV Guide.
"Shades of Blue" stars Jennifer Lopez as Harlee Santos, a charismatic single mother and resourceful detective at the heart of a tight-knit crew of Brooklyn detectives, led by enigmatic Lt. Matt Wozniak (Ray Liotta, "Goodfellas," "Field of Dreams") who often leads the team to step outside the limitations of the law in order to effectively protect their precinct and their own.
As a big illegal job looms on the horizon, the FBI catches Harlee in the act and pits her against her own unit. As a newly turned informant, Harlee struggles to safeguard her on-the-job family and avoid arrest in order to stay with her daughter. Harlee engages in a perilous dance with her FBI handler, Special Agent Stahl (Warren Kole), who develops an unhealthy obsession with her. Meanwhile, Wozniak, acting as the unit's patriarch, begins an all-consuming hunt for the informant. Pressure mounts as the crew struggles to perform their brand of street justice under FBI watch.
The cast includes Drea de Matteo ("Sopranos," "Sons of Anarchy"), Dayo Okeniyi ("Terminator: Genisys," "Hunger Games"), Vincent Laresca ("The Aviator," "Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift"), Hampton Fluker ("Aquarius," "The Blind Side") and Sarah Jeffery ("Rogue," "Wayward Pines"). Santino Fontana ("Frozen," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend") is a recurring guest star.
Showrunner Jack Orman ("Men of a Certain Age," "ER," "Pan Am"), Jennifer Lopez ("The Boy Next Door," "The Fosters"), Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas ("Extant," "The Fosters"), Benny Medina ("The Boy Next Door," "The Fosters"), Ryan Seacrest ("Keeping Up with the Kardashians," "Shahs of Sunset") and Nina Wass ("Mixology," "Golden Girls") all serve as executive producers with creator Adi Hasak ("Generation Kill," "3 Days to Kill"). Barry Levinson ("Rain Man," "And Justice for All") directed the first two episodes.
"Shades of Blue" is a production of Universal Television, Nuyorican Productions, EGTV, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Jack Orman Productions."

The series finale of broadcast television's most acclaimed drama will air Sunday, May 8 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT).
"It's never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television," said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment and David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios. "But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show's final run while at the top of its creative game. It has been CBS's sincere privilege to broadcast and produce THE GOOD WIFE for seven extraordinary seasons. We thank and applaud the outstanding cast, led by the impeccable Julianna Margulies, and the consummate writing and producing team, headed by the brilliant Robert and Michelle King, who brought to life a smart, sophisticated series that has delivered audiences so many memorable characters and unforgettable moments. It is a series that will only grow in prestige as its episodes are watched again or discovered by new viewers for many years to come."
"THE GOOD WIFE has been the creative experience of a lifetime," said executive producers and co-creators Robert and Michelle King. "Collaborating with the finest actors, writers, producers, staff and crew on 'The Education of Alicia Florrick' has been a dream. We can't imagine working with a more talented, professional, generous lead than Julianna Margulies or more supportive partners than Leslie Moonves, David Stapf, Glenn Geller and Nina Tassler at CBS and CBS Television Studios. We're looking forward to using this seventh season to bring Alicia's story to its natural conclusion. We couldn't be more excited and grateful."
"Being a part of THE GOOD WIFE has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career," said series star Julianna Margulies. "As an actress and a producer, it has been an absolute honor to be a part of a series that, throughout seven years, never settled on being just good
but always strived to be extraordinary. I have witnessed magic happen when Robert and Michelle King put pen to paper, and it has been a privilege to be in the company of their brilliance. To the most amazing and talented cast and crew, there will always be a special place in my heart for our 'Good Wife' family. As we close the book on our beloved show, I am humbled and grateful to know that together, we created and were a part of something truly remarkable."
Since THE GOOD WIFE debuted Sunday, Sept. 22, 2009, it has been one of the most acclaimed shows on television. It has been named AFI's Television Show of the year twice, won a Peabody Award, a Television Critics Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama, a Writers Guild of America Award for Episodic Drama, garnered two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, and three Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Television Series Drama. Series star Julianna Margulies has won a Golden Globe Award, two Emmy Awards, a Critic's Choice Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for her portrayal of Alicia Florrick. Across all categories, the series has won five Emmy Awards and received 39 Emmy Award nominations.
In addition to Margulies, THE GOOD WIFE stars Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Alan Cumming, Chris Noth, Cush Jumbo, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Zach Grenier. Former cast members include Josh Charles, whose character Will Gardner was killed in a pivotal episode on March 23, 2014, and Archie Panjabi.
Makenzie Vega, Graham Phillips, Mary Beth Peil, Stockard Channing, Michael J. Fox, Mamie Gummer, Gary Cole, Christopher McDonald, David Hyde Pierce, Oliver Platt and Jeffrey Tambor are just a few of the notable recurring cast members. In a statement, WGN America president and GM Matt Cherniss called the move a "very difficult decision," saying: "We are proud of this critically acclaimed series, an extraordinary original drama, and are deeply disappointed that such a wonderful show could not find a larger audience. We thank the immensely talented Sam Shaw and Thomas Schlamme, along with the exceptional cast and crew and our great partners at Lionsgate and Skydance, for crafting a masterful series. We are equally grateful to the dedicated fans for their support over the last two seasons."
Added producer and Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs: "Sam Shaw and Tommy Schlamme gave us a tremendously powerful television series chronicling the lives of those immersed in the race to build an atomic bomb in the dog days of World War II. Their masterful depictions of small victories, devastating betrayals and the high price of freedom will never be forgotten - just as the monstrous power wrought by splitting the atom indelibly scarred our world forever. We are thankful to our partners at Skydance, WGN America, Tribune Entertainment and Hulu for making the series possible and to our many fans in the U.S. and across the globe for watching along with us."
