"TNT Extends "The Last Ship" Renewal for Fifth Season

The Last Ship Ranks as One of Cable's Top 10 Summer Dramas with Adults 18-49

TNT, a division of Turner, has extended its recent renewal for The Last Ship, adding a fifth season of the epic drama. Currently in its third season, The Last Ship is reaching an average of 7.1 million viewers per episode across multiple platforms and ranks as one of basic cable's Top 10 summer dramas with adults 18-49. The action-packed series airs Sundays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), with the season finale slated for this weekend. The entire third season is also available through TNT's digital, mobile and VOD platforms.

In July at the Television Critics Association's Summer Press Tour, TNT and TBS President Kevin Reilly announced The Last Ship had been picked up for a fourth season. Today's announcement expands that renewal to a fourth and fifth season, each with 10 episodes.

"The Last Ship has taken viewers on an exciting ride through three truly thrilling seasons," said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. "We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons through summer 2018."

The Last Ship stars Eric Dane, Adam Baldwin and Bridget Regan. Based on William Brinkley's popular novel, the series chronicles the aftermath of a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world's population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoided falling victim to the devastating tragedy. Now, CNO Captain Tom Chandler (Dane) and his crew must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors.

The third season of The Last Ship also stars Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Jocko Sims, Bren Foster and Kevin Michael Martin. The series is produced by Turner's Studio T in association with Platinum Dunes, whose partners â€" blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form â€" serve as executive producers. Co-creators Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane also serve as executive producers, along with director Paul Holahan. Kane will serve as showrunner, having previously served alongside Steinberg for the first three seasons.

"GRIMM": The final season begins Friday, Jan. 6, 8-9 p.m.

Closing out an incredibly successful series run and giving viewers a chance to say goodbye over the last 13 episodes, the sixth and final season of NBC's drama "Grimm" will begin its last chapter with the battle fans have long been waiting for â€" Nick versus Capt. Renard.

The series, which reached the 100-episode milestone last season, has long been a fan and critical favorite, with the Los Angeles Times calling it "terrific and trendsetting… 'Grimm' has become a beacon of solid narrative and a weekly reminder of why monsters matter." The New York Times said "Grimm" is "engaging, clever, tense, funny and well-paced, featuring a remarkably appealing cast."

As for events leading into the final season, the nefarious forces of Black Claw have been silenced and Nick (David Giuntoli) faces an all too familiar foe in Capt. Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz). Now in the seat of power as the mayor elect of Portland, Renard is poised to bring rise to his own brand of law and order. Nick must take a stand to protect his city and those closest to him, especially his child with Adalind (Claire Coffee). It will take the full force of Nick and his allies to find a way to bring the peace.

Meanwhile, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) grapple with bringing a child into a new and tumultuous world, and Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) faces unsettling identity issues as her former self lurks below the surface.

"Grimm" also stars Russell Hornsby and Reggie Lee.

The series was created by David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf and Stephen Carpenter. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner ("Hollywood Game Night," "Hot in Cleveland") serve as executive producers along with Greenwalt and Kouf. "Grimm" is a Universal Television and Hazy Mills production.

Starz's 'Black Sails' to End With Season 4

The series was renewed last year for season four, with the 10-episode drama returning in 2017.

The end of the road for Black Sails is in sight.

Starz on Wednesday announced that the previously announced fourth season of the pirate drama Treasure Island prequel series will be its last. The series will return with a 10-episode fourth and final season in 2017.

"It's a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we've enjoyed on this show over the last four years," co-creator Jonathan E. Steinberg said in a statement. "While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn't imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island."

The first three seasons have averaged 3.6 million viewers when factoring in DVR and multiplatform viewers. Black Sails is distributed in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world and scored Emmys for visual effects and sound editing. The series, which stars Toby Stephens, is executive produced by Michael Bay, Steinberg (Jericho) and Robert Levine (Touch).

"Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, along with their crew and the phenomenal cast, have delivered a spectacular take on the most legendary pirate story in literature, and this final season will bring us to the shores of Treasure Island as was always intended," said Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik. "Black Sails has been a tremendous success; from the loyal fan following and strong viewership numbers to awards recognition and the skill of our world-class production in Cape Town, we could not be more proud of this very special series."
