"TNT Extends "The Last Ship" Renewal for Fifth Season
The Last Ship Ranks as One of Cable's Top 10 Summer Dramas with Adults 18-49
TNT, a division of Turner, has extended its recent renewal for The Last Ship, adding a fifth season of the epic drama. Currently in its third season, The Last Ship is reaching an average of 7.1 million viewers per episode across multiple platforms and ranks as one of basic cable's Top 10 summer dramas with adults 18-49. The action-packed series airs Sundays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), with the season finale slated for this weekend. The entire third season is also available through TNT's digital, mobile and VOD platforms.
In July at the Television Critics Association's Summer Press Tour, TNT and TBS President Kevin Reilly announced The Last Ship had been picked up for a fourth season. Today's announcement expands that renewal to a fourth and fifth season, each with 10 episodes.
"The Last Ship has taken viewers on an exciting ride through three truly thrilling seasons," said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. "We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons through summer 2018."
The Last Ship stars Eric Dane, Adam Baldwin and Bridget Regan. Based on William Brinkley's popular novel, the series chronicles the aftermath of a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world's population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoided falling victim to the devastating tragedy. Now, CNO Captain Tom Chandler (Dane) and his crew must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors.
The third season of The Last Ship also stars Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Jocko Sims, Bren Foster and Kevin Michael Martin. The series is produced by Turner's Studio T in association with Platinum Dunes, whose partners blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form serve as executive producers. Co-creators Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane also serve as executive producers, along with director Paul Holahan. Kane will serve as showrunner, having previously served alongside Steinberg for the first three seasons.
|Tyrant canceled by FX, No season 4|
|2016-09-18 by thepoperope||Tyrant||discuss|
FX has cancelled Tyrant after three seasons. The network has decided not to continue the political thriller into Season 4, with tonight's Season 3 finale now serving as the series finale.
Announcing the cancellation, FX Networks/FX Productions CEO John Landgraf, said:
"It's very difficult to find common ground with other people whose stories we do not know or understand. The creators of Tyrant have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today. We want to thank Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on Tyrant's tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect."
Could Tyrant Season 4 find life elsewhere? In a statement, Fox 21 Television Studios President Bert Salke paid lip-service to the prospect of the show moving to another platform:
"We feel the show is a gem and we'd love to find a way to keep it in production. That said, we want to be realistic about its prospects. So for its loyal audience, tonight's episode will be a satisfying end should the series not find another home, but also provides interesting possibilities should we be able to continue on some other platform."
Can Tyrant really overthrow the cancellation reaper to return for Season 4 at another outlet, or are the fans just being let down gently? Stay tuned
|Mistresses cancelled by ABC, No season 5|
|2016-09-18 by thepoperope||Mistresses||discuss|
ABC has cancelled Mistresses after four seasons,
The axe falls on Mistresses in the wake of optimistic EP Rina Mimoun pitching Season 5, which ultimately wasn't enough to secure what would have been the soapy drama's wrap-up season.
Mimoun said earlier this week:
"[With Season 4], they didn't tell us to make a series finale. [We're in the process of trying to pitch the network on the idea of] a final fling [of 13 episodes to air in 2017]. We really feel like there's one more year of story to tell, but we're also looking for a graceful way to wrap up the series. There'd be some new hot messes in the mix, and we'd be moving back toward the kind of racy romp that Mistresses was when it began."
Instead, Mistresses enters the cancellation graveyard on an unresolved cliffhanger.
